New Democracy wins majority in the July 2019 Greek elections

Kyriakos Mitsotakis is Greece’s new Prime Minister following New Democracy’s election victory with an outright majority with 158 seats in the 300-seat Parliament.


New Democracy captured 39.8% of the vote with 158 seats, while Former Prime Minister Alexi Tsipras’ SYRIZA party won 31.5% of the vote and 86 seats.


Other parties in Parliament include:

  • Kinima Allagis with 8.1% of the vote and 22 seats

  • Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) with 5.3% of the vote and 15 seats

  • Elliniki Lysi with 3.7% of the vote and 10 seats

  • MeRA 25 with 3.4% of the vote and 9 seats.

On Monday 8th, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced his 51-member Cabinet. Panagiotis Pikrammenos has been appointed the new Deputy Prime Minister; George Gerapetritis is the new State Minister; Stelios Petsas is the new Government Spokesman while Akis Skertsos has been appointed Minister to the Prime Minister.
