European Commission launches initiative to train 1,000,000 DeepTech talents between 2023 – 2025

The European Commission and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) have launched a flagship initiative under the New European Innovation Agenda to train 1,000,000 people in emerging DeepTech fields. This initiative is critical for the growth, innovation and competitiveness of Europe and is supported by Navigator Consulting.

EIT has announced the launch of the DeepTech Talent Initiative. DTTI is an innovative programme to train and upskill one million people within European deep tech fields over the next three years.

The DeepTech areas of focus include artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, cleantech, biotech and more. The lack of a skilled tech workforce in these areas has been identified as an existential threat to future technological growth.

EIT has developed Europe’s largest tech innovation ecosystem, including 3,400 partners and 70 innovation hubs across Europe. DTTI will focus on the development of a skilled labour force, as well as retain talent in Europe, reduce brain drain and contribute to better socio economic outcomes and inclusion.

The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, stated that:

Fostering, attracting, and retaining Deep Tech talents is crucial to enable the green and digital transitions and harness a new wave of innovation in line with the New European Innovation Agenda. As Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem, along with its network of 3 400 partners across Europe, the EIT is best placed to develop the deep tech education programmes the EU needs and to train 1 million European talents under the Deep Tech Talent Initiative. The initiative will ensure that Europe is in the vanguard of global cutting-edge technological advancements, and I encourage all European deep tech stakeholders, from educators and employers to Member States, to make a Pledge to support it.’
